Literacy Book- Week 7

Image
Part One Montgomery, S. (2009). Quest For The Tree Kangaroo . Clarion Books. Part Two The book The Quest for the Tree Kangaroo is a beautiful nonfiction story that explains a journey in New Guinea exploring the animal the tree kangaroo. The author did an amazing job of explaining her journey from start to finish on this trip and bringing life to the story of the expedition. One particular thought I had when reading this book was how smart the author was to include pictures in the story, as it can start to feel long, but the pictures keep the book enticing. Part Three This book in particular would be considered a quality book. It has a lot of structure in terms of plot, setting, theme, and style. There is a lot of structure and repetition where there are pictures in each page that are vibrant to keep the reader engaged. It is supposed to be a story that helps bring attention to an animal people may have never heard of, and spark interest to learn more. More so the book grabs the a...

Literacy Book- Week 6

Part One Chbosky, S. (1999). The Perks of Being a Wallflower . Pocket Books. Part Two The book The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a young adult literature book that takes us readers on a personal adventure through Charlies eyes. The author did an amazing job at helping the readers gravitate towards Charlie and specifically how he overcomes his traumatic experiences and finds peace. One particular thought I had when reading this book was the geniuses the author has of including the letters he writes, but seemingly that the friend never responds back, so we are left to fend for ourselves the possibilities of who he is writing to. Part Three This book in particular would be considered a quality book. It has a lot of structure in terms of plot, setting, theme, and style. There is a lot of structure and the theme that is repetitive throughout the novel is the diaries that he is writing that guide us throughout the story and transformation the character undergoes. It is supposed to be ...

Literacy Book - Week 5

Part One Kibuishi, K. (2008). Amulet(#1) The Stonekeeper . Graphix. Part Two The first book of the Amulet series is a great graphic novel that has art and an adventurous story that goes with it. The author did an amazing job at utilizing what they are able to do best in a graphic novel and making it a story that is intense, yet easy to follow along with. Kibuishi makes the story easy for readers to follow along with by using the shape of the boxes of each page to make it easy for the readers to sense where to read next. One particular thought I had when reading this graphic novel was how important the color was utilized in telling the story as well as the text style. With a graphic novel it showed that every little detail is important when telling a story because a graphic novel utilizes littler words and more animations to tell the story. Part Three This book in particular would be considered a quality book. It has a lot of structure in terms of plot, setting, theme, and style. ...

Part One Paterson, K. (1975). Bridge to Terabithia . HarperCollins. Part Two The Bridge to Terabithia is a book that keeps readers intrigued and can even pull at your heart strings. The author did an amazing job at writing this story and giving children the motive to dive deep into their imagination. Paterson makes the story easy for children to read and follow along with as the dialogue correlates to the age it is directed to. One particular thought I had when reading this novel was if there was a correlation between Jess's little sister and Leslie when she is upset that Leslie is not religious and asks her what happens if she dies. It is a dark moment that I believe is often overlooked, but I do wonder if it was foreshadowing the unfortunate events to occur later on.  Part Three This book in particular would be considered a quality book. It has a lot of structure in terms of plot, setting, theme, style, and point of view. There are so many themes that are laid out when rea...

Part One Park, L. S. (2002). When My Name Was Keoko . Clarion Books. Part Two When My Name Was Keoko is a very intense book in terms of the emotional story that is provided. During the reading I considered why historically I have never been taught, and why we do not teach more of this topic in history class. It is so important for students to understand all sides of history without undermining and feeling a certain race is not important, especially in a World War. It was hard to imagine not being able to speak your own language, and being unable to showcase or be proud of a heritage that is a part of your family. Part Three This book in particular would be considered a quality book. It has a lot of structure in terms of plot, setting, theme, style, and point of view. There is also a feeling of reflection when reading the story where readers can question why this has happened to this specific group, and how we as readers would feel if it happened to us. The book's purpose is to enga...

Part One  Burton, V. L. (1942). The Little House. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.  Part Two  The Little House gives readers insight on how the little things of life can be overshadowed and passed by. As the house was filled with memories and got to experience the beauty of life in the countryside it was overtaken by the tall cities and busy transportation and was forgotten about until the great granddaughter remembered memories and stories of the house. This book helps us see how easy it is to lose sight of beauty and why it is important to find beauty in the little things.  Part Three  This book in particular would be considered a quality book. It has a lot of structure in terms of plot, setting, theme, style, and point of view. There is a direct message within the story that is easy to follow along for kids, and the plot is interesting. There is a chronological order in which the story flows and gives a theme for both the house and the cities. The book's conc...
