Literacy Book- Week 4
Part One
Paterson, K. (1975). Bridge to Terabithia. HarperCollins.
Part Two
The Bridge to Terabithia is a book that keeps readers intrigued and can even pull at your heart strings. The author did an amazing job at writing this story and giving children the motive to dive deep into their imagination. Paterson makes the story easy for children to read and follow along with as the dialogue correlates to the age it is directed to. One particular thought I had when reading this novel was if there was a correlation between Jess's little sister and Leslie when she is upset that Leslie is not religious and asks her what happens if she dies. It is a dark moment that I believe is often overlooked, but I do wonder if it was foreshadowing the unfortunate events to occur later on.
Part Three
This book in particular would be considered a quality book. It has a lot of structure in terms of plot, setting, theme, style, and point of view. There are so many themes that are laid out when reading this novel. It goes through not only the importance of friendship but the cycles of grief. The book's purpose is to engage readers in a fulfilling adventure of friendship, and shed light that even in grief an imagination or memory can be turned into something positive. It is a book that is meant for the classroom and could possibly spark someone who does not like reading to gain interest in books.
